“If you have a bad attitude towards life, towards people and towards yourself. If you always quit, if you can’t fight through adversity, and you are always being negative. That is a true disability. Because you are closed off, blocked off, you are missing all these blessings and opportunities. My legs right here is not my disability.”
“I believe there is a lot of ways that you can help and be a part of the changes for those with limb differences. In the fashion world, it is to give us more chances to be on those campaigns, be on those billboards, to have an adaptive clothing line for us. Talk to us so that you know how to make that adaptive clothing line be as successful as it can be. I think is giving us the opportunity to be a part of this brand. So our next generation gets to see us.”

“3 years ago, I had my leg amputated. As a dancer, I couldn’t accept reality. The day after my surgery was my birthday. I received a new gift from the universe, even though I lost my leg. Now, I will take a lot of different meanings for everything. I need to believe in myself that I can dance again. I keep practicing and I working out. Now I am an inspiration for a lot of dancers.”
“Having a mental health problems felt like I was in a black hole and I couldn’t get out of there. I had a suicide attempt 3 months before the game but I went out and won 2 gold medals after. I overcame my mental health by thinking about who I was and what I want to be. If there is a little girl who looks like me and is struggling to compete, I want her to know that Deja did it so you can do it too. I want to be the person who paves their way. I hold on to this piece of hope myself because I want to make that difference.”
